Step 01

Snap your hair.

Take a photo in natural light. The system reads texture, density, and how your curl pattern behaves - not a dropdown you have to guess at. Your photo becomes the foundation of your hair profile, not just a one-time scan.

Step 02

Build your profile.

Answer a few questions: current length, chemical processing history, style history. This is the foundation everything else builds on. Your profile is persistent - it learns as your hair changes, as you grow out a treatment, or as you transition.

Your answers and your photo get combined into one profile that sticks with you. As your hair grows out, transitions, or changes, Avalon stays current.

Step 03

Browse matched styles.

The 300+ style catalog filters to what works for your specific hair - not a generic texture category. Commitment level, chair time, and cost range appear on every card. The catalog reflects real salon data, not idealized photography.

Every style is checked against your hair across 14 factors - not just texture type. Length, porosity, heat history, density. What shows up for you actually fits you.

Step 04

Get your match.

Before you spend hours in a chair and hundreds of dollars, Avalon tells you whether you can actually get the style given your current hair. If not: how long to grow. What protective styles to use in the meantime. What to avoid so you don't set yourself back.

Avalon checks your profile against what the style actually needs and gives you a straight answer: ready, not yet, or here's your path. Plain English, no surprises in the chair. Beta in v0.1.

Step 05

Book a stylist. Coming Q1 2027

The Marketplace opens Q1 2027. When you book, your stylist receives your full hair profile before the appointment starts. The consultation is done before you sit down. No more starting from scratch explaining your history every single time.

Does this work for relaxed hair?

Yes. The catalog includes styles appropriate for relaxed, texlaxed, and transitioning hair. Your profile captures processing history so the system accounts for the structural differences between chemically processed and natural hair.

What textures does Avalon support?

The current catalog focuses on Type 3 and Type 4 textures (3A through 4C), with the highest concentration of styles in 4A through 4C. This reflects where the feasibility gap is largest. Type 2 and wavy patterns are on the roadmap for a future release.

Do you store my photos permanently?

No. Raw photo files are not retained after the profile build is complete unless you explicitly enable photo history in settings. The derived hair fingerprint (numerical values, not an image) is what persists in your profile. You can delete your profile and all associated data at any time from the app settings.

How accurate is the match?

The verdict engine is in beta in v0.1. Early testing shows strong accuracy for length-based and density-based constraints. Processing history constraints are improving. We show a confidence indicator with each verdict so you always know how certain the system is.

When is the Marketplace opening?

Q1 2027 is the target for the first Marketplace cohort. We're accepting stylist applications now for the founding cohort, which will have reduced commission rates and priority placement. See the Marketplace page for details.
